How much does junk removal cost in 2026?

Updated 2026-06-30 · US averages

Most single-trip junk removal jobs in the US cost $150 to $350. The full range runs from about $100 to $175 for a minimum pickup (one or two small items) up to $550 to $1,000 for a full truckload. The reason it is a range, not a fixed price, is that almost every hauler charges by how much room your junk takes in the truck.

How junk removal is priced

Full-service haulers price by volume, the fraction of a truck your stuff fills. A standard truck holds about 15 cubic yards. The usual tiers in 2026 look like this.

Load size Typical price
Minimum (1 to 2 items) $100 to $175
1/4 truck $150 to $300
1/2 truck $300 to $520
3/4 truck $450 to $750
Full truck (about 15 cu yd) $550 to $1,000

A few haulers offer flat single-item pricing for very small jobs, but once you have more than a couple of items, the truckload price almost always wins.

Typical prices by item

These are full-service prices for common items. Combining several into one pickup is cheaper than paying each single-item price, because you are really paying for truck space.

  • Sofa or couch: $90 to $180
  • Mattress: $70 to $160
  • Refrigerator: $100 to $200
  • Washer or dryer: $90 to $170
  • TV: $40 to $100
  • Hot tub: $350 to $600
  • Piano (upright): $250 to $500
  • Bags or boxes (per 5): $60 to $120

What drives the bill up

  • Volume. The single biggest factor. More truck space means a higher tier.
  • Heavy or awkward items. Hot tubs, pianos, pool tables and large appliances cost more to move and dispose of.
  • Access. Stairs, elevators, long carries or tight driveways add roughly 10 to 20 percent.
  • Location. Labor and landfill or recycling fees vary by state, so the same load can cost more in California or New York than in the Midwest.
  • Urgency. Same-day or weekend slots usually carry a premium.
